Expanding Test Capabilities using virtual ECU Level 4 and abstract HIL Models

Robert Evert, MicroNova AG

Current generation development workflows in automotive software often include CI/CD toolchains and therefore benefit from continuous automatic testing. These higher requirements on the testbench make it necessary to include simulations on various levels of the process. The availability of current solutions ranges from simple unit tests through fully featured virtual hardware to non-functional models of future software. This presentation gives an insight into the usage of a Prostep level 4 virtual ECU in the development of an ASIL-D electric power steering. The usual HIL and development board setups are extended with virtual pendants and used at the level of software integration and testing steps. A connecting link between this virtual setup and the Hardware/Software design phase is created to enable further optimizations of the process and to deliver a benefit to the product.
