The development of electric vehicle drives currently aims at a holistic improvement of power-to-weight ratio, efficiency, and sustainability while reducing costs. ZF has made great progress with innovative approaches in the main components power electronics, electric motor and reduction gear as well as with the intelligent overall electric vehicle drive unit. The SELECT drive platform with highest customer value was created from multiple, in part unique, modules. Examples of such modules are the coaxial reduction gear unit with integrated differential from the "RD:SELECT" platform for high torque density, which extends the conventional, axial parallel approach. For the electric motors, represented by the "EM:SELECT" platform, the best solution in each case can be selected from a permanently excited or externally excited synchronous machine or asynchronous machine, depending on the customer requirements. The inverter selection from the "IN:SELECT" platform with variable choice of power semiconductors and intermediate circuit capacitor complements the ZF SELECT electric vehicle platform for primary drives with optimized auxiliary components such as oil pump, actuators and optional parking lock. This presentation shows how technology modules of ZF Friedrichshafen AG can be used to cover a wide variety of customer requirements for primary drives, explains the development method and contains current simulation and test results.
