Remote battery SoH test by using Mobility Data Space

Christoph Georg Nolte, DEKRA SE

This abstract presents a novel approach to evaluate the state of health (SoH) of electric vehicles batteries by using a remote connection via Mobility Data Space - a data ecosystem for data sharing in the mobility sector based on IDSA standard. The Mobility Data Space enables the exchange of data between different mobility stakeholders, such as vehicle operators, fleet service management providers, charging point operators on one hand, as well as battery test providers and the customer himself. By using Data Space Connection, battery testers can access relevant data from the car's onboard diagnostic system and perform a web-remote battery test in just 15 minutes, without even having physical access to the vehicle. The battery test results provide a transparent and reliable assessment of the battery's capacity, performance, and value, which can help car owners, buyers, and sellers make informed decisions. The paper also discusses the benefits and challenges of using remote diagnostics for battery testing and the potential implications for the electromobility sector. The novelty of this work lies in the use of a data space – in this case the Mobility Data Space – for a seamless and convenient battery testing service for electric cars. The Mobility Data Space is an initiative that aims to create a common data infrastructure and governance framework for the mobility sector, based on the principles of data sovereignty, interoperability, and trust. By using the Mobility Data Space, battery testers can access and process data from different sources and provide standardized and independent battery test reports. Future data driven testing is becoming more and more important, while using data as effective as possible.
