Sustainable Energy & Powertrains

Towards CO2-Neutral Mobility

There are now more than 1.5 billion vehicles on the world's roads. Many are powered by fossil based fuels or electricity. Electromobility makes a very important contribution on the way to local CO2-neutral mobility and a rapid reduction in CO2 emissions from road traffic can only be achieved by including the existing fleet.

To enable a sustainable transition, renewable energy sources and sustainable energy carriers are essential across all mobility solutions. Alongside powertrain electrification, hydrogen and eFuels offer globally viable pathways toward achieving CO2-neutral mobility.

The conference Sustainable Energy & Powertrains (former Conference on Powertrains with Renewable Energy Carriers), taking place on November 25 - 26, 2025, focuses on the critical topics shaping the future of CO2-neutral mobility. Targeting professionals from industry, academia, and policy-making, the event explores challenges and innovative solutions involving renewable electricity, hydrogen, and sustainable fuels. The conference also features a trade exhibition, offering attendees the opportunity to connect with cutting-edge technologies and leading industry stakeholders.

The following topics are planned:

  • Powertrain electrification, hybrid and combustion technologies incl. fuel cells
  • Energy infrastructure build-up, bottlenecks and challenges in renewable electricity, hydrogen and renewable fuels
  • Carbon-neutral fuels (hydrogen, eFuels, bioFuels)
  • Battery technologies
  • High efficiency development in combustion processes and exhaust gas aftertreatment
  • Carbon neutrality in motorsports
  • Global market development and political framework for carbon neutrality

The latest Conference in 2023

After two eventful days, the conference came to a successful end. About 100 participants had the opportunity to attend exciting presentations, take away insights from the three keynote speeches and exchange thoughts with other experts at the networking evening. You can watch the keynote speech by Arnd Franz from Mahle on our YouTube channel.
