Cluster Electric Mobility South-West

The State Agency for New Mobility Solutions and Automotive Baden-Württemberg, e-mobil BW GmbH, coordinates the Cluster Electric Mobility South-West. Open to all kind of technologies, e-mobil BW GmbH acts as a driver in the industrialisation, market launch and application of sustainable, climate compatible and locally zero-emission mobility solutions.
To this effect, it strengthens the Land Baden-Württemberg as an industrial and science centre.

Innovative research and development projects implemented in cooperation with various partners are a key element for the further development of technologies and the industrialisation of electric mobility. For this reason, the members of the Cluster Electric Mobility South-West have been actively engaged in funded projects at regional, national and EU level since the early days of the network.
The cluster management supports its members in the search for partners and relevant sources of funding.

With more than 160 members from industry and science, the Cluster Electric Mobility South-West, founded in 2007, is one of the largest cluster initiatives for future mobility.
The mobility industry's complete value chain is covered by the cooperation of high-performance automotive manufacturers as well as leading global system suppliers and numerous renowned medium-sized companies with excellent research facilities and universities. In addition to its members, the Cluster Electric Mobility South West benefits from a broad international network of relevant players in Europe, as well as in North America and Asia.

This international network allows the Cluster Electric Mobility South-West to scout technological developments at an early stage, to create efficient synergies and to promote European and international projects.

The Institute of Vehicle Concepts is a systems institute. It works on and coordinates research topics relevant to traffic engineering on new vehicle concepts and vehicle technologies.

The institute's fields of work address the development of future technology systems for sustainable, safe and affordable vehicle generations on road and rail.

The institute's contributions range from conception and design to construction, calculation and simulation, and the production of research demonstrators, components and vehicles.

The FKFS is an independent institute and provides research and development services for the international automotive industry.


To this end, it operates various highly specialized test facilities and test vehicles, including several wind tunnels, Europe's largest driving simulator at a research facility, a powertrain test bench for hybrid and conventional vehicles, and numerous engine test benches. In-house developed measurement and testing methods enable the institute to solve complex and challenging tasks. Around 180 highly qualified and dedicated employees work on research and development projects in the fields of vehicle drives, automotive engineering, mechatronics and electromobility.
