Metrics of Longitudinal Dynamics for Battery Electric Vehicles

In vehicle development, manufacturers usually strive for their distinctive and recognizable character of their products. In order to realize this reproducibly, objective parameters can help to describe the subjective human perception. With regard to the longitudinal dynamics of vehicles, a large number of characteristic values are known in the literature. These relate primarily to the objective description of the behavior of vehicles with combustion engines, which were then transferred to battery electric vehicles (BEV). However, compared to vehicles powered by internal combustion engines BEV have different torque-speed characteristics of the traction motors, require different focal points (e.g. efficiency, temperature control of the battery) and allow, for example, an individual shaping of the acceleration curve. Thus, in order to characterize the longitudinal dynamic behavior, specific parameters for BEV have to be defined. The characteristic values describe the driveability of BEV, which makes it possible to compare the vehicles (benchmark). In addition, they allow the manufacturer to give its vehicles their own character in all operating conditions. The aim of this publication is to demonstrate the derivation and validation of the parameters for longitudinal dynamics. The focus is on human perception and interaction with the vehicle.
